Compressors that are out of this world. A snapshot of J&J’s work in the aerospace industry.

One of the most interesting things about compressed air is its sheer variation of use within many different industries. The tablet you took this morning was made with compressed air. The bread you spread your peanut butter on was made using compressed air. Even the filling in your mouth was brought about using compressed air.

But whilst bread, tablets and dental work can feel everyday, outer space certainly does not.

Compressed air has been used in the aerospace industry since the beginning of the 20th century with notable contributions being its use in aircraft catapults in the 1910s and, of course, for engine starting systems in the 1950s.

And here at J&J we are proud to be part of this history. With J&J Air Systems opening our doors back in 1963, we have worked extensively within the aerospace industry within the Buckinghamshire and London area. And we are happy to say that 2025 has been no different.

J&J’s Latest Installation

In October, one of our aerospace clients based in West London decided to take the plunge to swap their 25 year old CompAir compressors for a brand new kit including the CompAir L75RS, the latest refrigerant dryers and up-to-date air receivers.

So why make the swap?

The move to a new model like the CompAir L75RS brings several key advantages, especially in high-demand environments such as aerospace, pharmaceuticals and production.

Some key benefits include:

🔹 Improved Energy Efficiency

The L75RS features a high-performance, direct-drive, variable-speed (RS) motor. This allows the compressor to match output precisely to air demand, dramatically reducing energy consumption during low-load periods. And to put this into context this can translate into a whopping 15–35% energy saving compared to fixed-speed units!

🔹 Improved Air Quality

Paired with the new refrigerant dryers, this new system provides consistent, clean, and dry air. Clean and purified air is essential for precision manufacturing in industries where the air quality will directly affect product quality and safety.

🔹 Quiet, Smooth Operation

With improved rotor profiles and advanced cooling systems, the L75RS is significantly quieter than older models. So say goodbye to noisy compressed air systems, and hello to a calmer and more comfortable working environment.

🔹 Industry-Leading Reliability

The L-Series is made specifically for continuous heavy-duty operations. With long-life bearings, high-efficiency airends, and premium filtration, this system is engineered to have a long service life with minimal downtime for you and your business.

🔹 Full CompAir Warranty

By switching to new equipment you can breathe easily knowing that your new kit is completely warrantied. CompAir’s extended warranty programmes last for 10 years and help to ensure protection against unexpected repair costs and to provide predictable service planning.

🔹 Better Control & Monitoring

The L75RS comes equipped with an intelligent controller offering Iconn real-time system monitoring, fault diagnostics, service reminders, and email alerts. This allows you to track the performance of your compressor, maximise uptime, and prevent issues before they arise.

🔹 Lower Environmental Impact

Reduced power consumption and modern efficient components help cut CO₂ emissions, meaning a greener and more sustainable compressed air system.

With all of these clear benefits, making the upgrade was an easy decision for our client!
